A story of few words and great impact.
June Belz is a woman entering the later years of her life. She is in a stagnant marriage but it seems to fit her. The day after a hurricane hits Long Island, she is out surveying the damage when she notices a man sitting on a bench. Upon approaching, she realizes that she knows him. It is then that she is taken back to her youth, to a time when things were different; to her first love.

Emotionally riveting!This is a short story - or novelette as the description states (I think it's longer than a short story) - about a sixty five year old woman who runs into an old love while out walking on the day after a storm. The two recognize each other and begin talking, all the while she is remembering the past. It was very interesting to see the dynamic of their present day interaction in contrast to the history they have together. The story is told subtlety, without "saying too much" but the emotions seem to jump off the page. I found this to be a very relatable, bittersweet story about "the one who got away" and about settling into an imperfect life.
